2024 saw significant growth from the G+, with 12 workstreams completed and the publication of over 10 projects! Globally, the organisation has continued to expand in the APAC region and even developed connections in Brazil and Canada. 2025 is well underway and there is much to anticipate from the organisation in the coming months…
Workstreams
Many projects are continuing from 2024 and the organisation looks forward to seeing the following progress this year:
Lifting governance | OW 2209
- Due for imminent publication following wider industry consultation, this GPG (EI3583) aims to share, advance and encourage good practice for the governance of lifting operations in the offshore wind industry. It advises on competence; roles and responsibilities; support, engagement and information sharing; lift categorisation; risk assessment; lift planning; human factors; exclusion zones; design, selection, use and management of lifting equipment and accessories; management of change; and continual improvement.
Manual Handling | OW 2208
- In collaboration with SafetyOn, this video campaign involves the production of four film clips to raise awareness and recommend manual handling good practice. Two clips involve real technicians sharing what manual handling means to them and their experiences, including one as a reconstruction video. Two clips are animations, one focusses on designing out risk (Safe by Design) while the other depicts risk assessment for manual handling. Look out for their release by the close of Q2.
Incident data reporting | OW 2502
- The workgroup is busy gathering and processing the data from the final quarter of 2024. Working hard with the deep dive group, the topic focus areas are being confirmed for the 2024 Annual Report, anticipated for publication in the second week of June - mark your calendars!
Implementation of GPGs | OW 2412
- Commenced in Q1 of this year, this workstream will enable the G+ to understand if and how it’s GPGs are being used to be able to improve future revisions and shape new and on-going work. K2 have been contracted to assist with developing self-assessment forms for existing G+ GPGs that can be shared with industry. It will also help to systematically receive feedback on the GPG documents to improve future editions and to drive implementation in the offshore wind industry.

Workshops
G+/IMCA Surveying Buoys Workshop, Q2 | OW 2408
- Background: evident in the G+ development incident data and raised at the European FG meeting, this topic was considered a global issue. Concerns were related to the deployment, maintenance, sea-state/weather condition, and vessel selection issues.
- Aim: The workshop aims to share information and good practice to establish health and safety considerations in offshore wind deployment and maintenance of surveying buoys. It is the role of the G+ and IMCA to make all aware of existing concerns and look at what might be needed going forward. This includes a holistic review of all parts of the supply chain and where efforts are most beneficially focused.
