Strengthening Safety Culture: a breakdown of the Manual Handling campaign

The 2024 Incident Data Report found that manual handling continued to be the leading cause of injuries in the wind industry—both onshore and offshore, with an increase in incidents in comparison to the 2023 data. In response, in June 2025, G+ and SafetyOn launched a powerful video-led campaign to raise awareness and drive change.

Real Stories, Real Impact

The campaign features a four-part video series that brings manual handling risks to life through the voices of real technicians. From personal injury stories to design-led safety solutions, each video is rooted in lived experience and practical insight.

Designed for Implementation

The campaign was created with flexibility in mind. As reported in the initial feedback survey, member companies have already used the materials to run their own internal campaigns. The downloadable resources have also been incorporated into safety momentstoolbox talks, and broader safety culture initiatives.

For full accessibility, the campaign has also been designed for Technicians to utilise the content individually, demonstrating the campaign’s value as a resource for personal learning and reflection.

What’s Included?

  • Video 1: What is Manual Handling?

"Manual handling is everybody's responsibility,"

In this clip, Technicians share their perspectives, experiences and strategies when managing manual handling activities.

  • Video 2: The Incident

"Work smart not hard,"

Hear from Ian, as he shares how one simple mistake, during an everyday task on-site, resulted in a musculoskeletal injury which had significant knock-on effects on his personal and professional life.

  • Video 3: Safe by Design

"Whatever the solution, everyone has a role to play in designing out risk,"

This clip highlights how manual handling risks can be designed out, both through equipment design and manufacture as well as task design on-the-ground.

  • Video 4: Risk Assessment

"While the emerging risks may change, this mindset of constantly assessing risk is key to wherever you are,"

A manual handling risk can be influenced by environmental, personal and situational circumstances. This clip emphasises the importance of undertaking dynamic risk assessments for each scenario, encouraging proactive safety behaviour.

All 4 videos include subtitles, available via the settings icon.

Embedding a Culture of Care

The campaign implementation survey highlighted a growing commitment across the industry to embed manual handling awareness into everyday operations. Viewers have described the videos as “powerful and relatable.” By sharing real experiences and practical solutions, the campaign is helping to foster a culture where safety is everyone’s responsibility.
